Making Engine Bay "Correct" Making Engine Bay "Korrigieren"
#1
Hi,

As I prepare car for European Trip, I want engine compartment to be "Correct"

Here are some updated pictures of my task of making the engine compartment look more like it did when I bought the car 42 years ago Forget the french locks, put one on and realized why I took them off.

Last week before I started work, engine runs perfectly but did not have correct clamps , paint etc.

Jack,

Good to have you posting here. Maybe it is interesting for you to know that numbers matching or absolute original appearance is not that imporatnt here in Germany. I doubt that there are many around who could distinguish between an original or non- original clamp - me included Feixen
We are forced by law to make some changes in order to get our Corvettes street legal. Maybe this is one cause that there isn't a domestic NCRS. Maybe another cause is that are not that many older Corvettes aroundso it is really hard to compare them in terms of originality.
I'm excited to be informed on your EU itinerary.keep posting here.

Hi Robert,

You are correct,.......it must run...and I have kept this engine running for 300,000 miles.....

I thought the car needed a new dress to go to this summer party !

Look forward to meeting all you very passionate corvette drivers

Jack

That looks like a Hurst shifter.....you will lose judging points ......but you will go a lot faster........

I put my Hurst in one month after buying car in 1970

I got tired of being dressed in a tuxedo or business suit in New York City and crawling under car to fix linkage.......

It will be fun driving around with you and the rest of the crazy corvette nuts in Europe

Hey Jack,

yes, its a hurst OK!
Loosing judging points in your opinion, or in the "association of original historic corvettes"? King
I´ve bought the lady two years before in Alabama. The preowner made this rebuildings, there are a lot of other no matching numbers assecoires: replacement engine, fender of 71, exterior mirror of 76? and so on...

But i love her and will never give her away Herz

Will you visit Baden-Württemberg? I hope so, then we will drink a swabian beer together and discuss about hursts and mn Yeeah!

I just got my air cleaner back from metal finisher. He did what he could to get it into shape. 46 years of driving took its toll.

It is re-chromed ,but the pitting was so deep he could not get it all out. Just the same, it is the cover that the car was born with. He was able to save the silk screen on the underside.

No over spray, but I think it is mechanically correct now. Here are some pictures.
